My journey to find Somatic Movement Education
I have spent my life exploring how the body can feel and function at its best. My deep curiosity about movement has guided me through a variety of artistic and athletic pursuits — always searching for how we can move with more ease, awareness, and freedom.
Over the past 20 years, I’ve trained in multiple styles of dance and spent six years working in the physically demanding and competitive world of tree planting. I’m also a hiker, runner, snowboarder, and outdoor enthusiast, often exploring the world by canoe, bike, or simply on foot. Through all this movement and play, I’ve learned how crucial it is to maintain a healthy, functioning sensory-motor system to stay pain-free and resilient.
To support my training and recovery, I’ve explored many approaches — yoga, Feldenkrais, Alexander Technique, Qi Gong, and other somatic movement practices. Each one offered something valuable, but none gave me the missing link I was searching for — a method that explained why certain patterns of chronic tension, back pain, and joint pain kept returning, even when I felt like I was young, active, and doing everything right.
That changed when I discovered Somatic Movement Education. Of all the modalities I’ve studied, it has been the most accessible, adaptable, and effective for improving movement, correcting postural imbalances, and relieving chronic muscle and joint pain.
Like many of my students, I had my own story of pain: persistent lower back tension, recurring knee pain, and SI joint pain—all before I turned 30. Despite trying chiropractic care, osteopathy, and physiotherapy, the results were always temporary. None provided that sense of brain-body connection or the awareness-based learning I needed to create lasting change.
That’s when I started asking:
-
Why does my back pain keep coming back?
-
How can I release tension that no stretch seems to reach?
-
What role does my brain play in maintaining tightness and imbalance?
These questions led me to Somatic Movement Education and the work of Thomas Hanna — a pioneer in understanding the neuromuscular connection behind movement and tension.
After training with the Somatic Movement Centre and Essential Somatics, I've become deeply passionate about sharing this work. Through pandiculation, proprioceptive awareness, and brain-based learning, I now help my students release deeply held tension, restore natural movement, and build long-term resilience — without painkillers, gadgets, or endless appointments.
In every session, I bring empathy, curiosity, and a commitment to meeting each person where they are. My goal is to help you understand your body’s story, unwind long-held patterns, and rediscover what it feels like to move with ease — so you can get back to doing what you love, pain-free.
